Unveiling Your True Identity: The Battle Against Identity Crisis

Who are you?

I want to start off by posing this question…

Do you know who you are?

I mean, do you really know who you are??

Notice I did not ask about what you do for a living, what your name is, what roles you have taken on, what you like doing for hobbies, how you describe your attributes, or your gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background. So again, apart from that, WHO ARE YOU?

But First...We want to hear from you!

WHO ARE YOU? Can you answer this question without including the attributes listed above?

  • Yes

  • No

If you are having difficulty answering that question, know that you are not alone. Millions of people struggle with identity today. Now, in this information age its worse than ever. Technology has spoiled us to wanting instant gratification. All information, whether it is the truth or lies, fact or

Unmask yourself.

fiction, healthy or toxic, is all there, literally in the palm of our hands, on our cellphones, tablets, laptops, and televisions. And people often choose the lowest-hanging fruit, the information with the least amount of resistance as their belief system which shapes their identity or the lack thereof.

Let me give you an example. I won’t dig deep into this now, but I will use this as an example of how the enemy’s lies distort identity. In today’s society, we have the option to choose what we identify as. Children in elementary school are learning to include their pronouns he/him/his, she/her, or neither him or her. You can elect to be non-binary within a binary (male/female) system. So, let’s go to 2 Corinthians 6:18.

2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)

It says “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” Sons… That’s he/him, right? Daughters… That’s she/her, right? Where does nonbinary fit in in this scripture. If the enemy’s lies can distort identity in such a way that convinces an individual that he or she is not in that he/sons or she/daughters category, that individual has just allowed themselves to be blotted out of this scripture. That is how spiritual warfare works.

Identity crisis is spiritual warfare.

Identity crisis is spiritual warfare. The enemy knows that our identity is important. So, he seeks to distort it by infiltrating our thoughts. If we allow the enemy to control our thoughts, he can ultimately control and imprison us by planting lies about our identity, what God has for us, and our purpose. The devil already knows our identities. The enemy knows he cannot take anything God has given us, including our identity. Instead, he seeks to preoccupy and tire us out in hopes of deterring us from reaching the plans God has for us.

There is a sequence to life. We must know God to know ourselves. The more we learn about God, the more we learn about ourselves. Knowing who God is tells us who we are in God, which simplifies our lives because the boundaries and standards required to live an aligned life with God become clear. Let me give you scripture for this. Read the scripture below.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ERV)

So, here are some examples of how knowing your identity in Christ can streamline your life and produce an unshakable confidence in God no matter the circumstance:

  1. Because of who I am, I need to stay close to God.

  2. Because of who I am, I need to study His Word, fast, and pray to Him on a regular basis to discern His voice.

  3. Because of who I am, I need to set standards and boundaries that align with God’s Will for my life.

  4. Because of who I am, I have a purpose.

  5. Because of who I am, no weapon formed against me shall prosper because He has overcome the world, healed me by His stripes, and covered me with His blood.

  6. Because of who I am, I have dominion over the earth, and I am an heir of the Most High God.

  7. Because of who I am, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  8. Yes, I’m going through hard times…and I said going through, not wallowing in, but I am a child of the Most High God, the One who has already overcome the world. So, I’m an overcomer, just like my DADDY who promised never to leave me or forsake me.

  9. No, that man…that woman may not think much of me, may not value me, but God thought I was worth dying for. I am Loved. I am capable, and I have been made righteous.

God is the answer.

YA’LL, PLEASE GET IN THAT BIBLE AND LET THE ONE WHO CREATED YOU TELL YOU WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

God has already given you your identity and already had a purpose and plan for your life the moment you were placed in your mother’s womb. So, start studying the Word of God to learn about yourselves.

I managed a movie store when I was younger, and I am a huge movie buff. One of my favorite sagas is Transformers. Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, constantly expresses who he is in every movie, especially in battle. Particularly, toward the end of the movie, Transformers: The Last Knight, Optimus arrives at the height of the battle in a grand fashion and defeats the Decepticons with ease. But before he does this, he states, “Did you forget who I am? I am Optimus Prime!” So, to you believers who have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, we need to get in the same mindset as Optimus and tell the enemy, with authority, who we are. “Devil, you must have forgotten who I am! I am a child of the Most High God, created in His image and likeness, and you have no authority over me!” Tell the enemy who you are! We have the power to tell the enemy to flee! Having a close relationship with God, solidifies our identity in Him, and simplifies our life by defining our standards.

Good New is Coming!

The Invitation to Salvation

John 16:33 (NIV)

John 16:33 has already confirmed that we will have trouble. We are going to have storms in our life. But we have an anchor in Jesus Christ so that we don’t blow away in the storms of life. But what if you don’t have Christ? What if you haven’t accepted the invitation to salvation?

If you do not have a relationship with God or have not accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, that is another story, because if you haven’t, you leave yourself open and defenseless to doubt, fragility, toxicity, and confinement.

If you have not accepted Christ as Your Lord and Savior, because you need more information about salvation to make your decision, please take the FREE mini course titled, THE INVITATION. It will give you a detailed explanation on why salvation is necessary, how to become saved, and the next step after you accept The Invitation.

God,

I know You love me. I believe You died and rose from the dead for my sins. Please forgive me for my sins. I give you my heart and soul. Please be my Savior and Lord. Transform me. I desire to align with Your Will. Thank you for Your faithfulness and Your Love.

It is in Jesus’s name I pray.

Amen.

All of heaven rejoices when one person accepts THE INVITATION to salvation.

~ Luke 15:10
